Swoop has hired former ADTRAN Asia Pacific (APAC) regional chief technology officer Anthony Camilleri as its head of infrastructure.
Camilleri started in the role in July and will establish Swoop Infrastructure as a new business unit, as well as developing Swoop Fibre retail and wholesale offerings.
He has also been tasked with, over the next three years, establishing a Fibre Broadband business unit, partnering with industry groups and developers and growing broadband subscriber numbers.
Camilleri joins with over 28 years of ICT experience, with the last four spent at ADTRAN. He has also worked at New Horizons ICT Consulting, NBN Co, Telstra, Optus and Uecomm.
Swoop CEO Alex West said that Camilleri will take the lead for the rollout of Swoop’s Fibre Broadband roadmap.
“Anthony’s deep expertise and extensive experience will be invaluable as we continue to innovate and expand our services,” West said.
“Throughout his career, Anthony has been a driving force in shaping the broadband landscape in Australia, starting his journey with narrowband technology and evolving into a leading expert in high-speed fibre broadband networks.”
Camilleri added that the role presents him with “yet another opportunity for me to make a meaningful impact in the company’s direction, rapid growth and evolution”.
“Based on my years of experience, I believe that together we can deliver a competitive edge that will not only create value for our customers but also ensure long-term value for our shareholders.”
Camilleri’s appointment comes less than a month after Swoop’s continued bidding war between itself and Maxo Telecommunications (MaxoTel) over Vonex. On 18 October, Swoop announced an off-market takeover offer of offering 1 Swoop share for every 4.2 Vonex shares, implying an offer price of $0.05 per Vonex share.
This was to compete with Vonex’s offer of an unconditional on-market takeover offer of $0.042 per Vonex share in cash. Since then, MaxoTel has upped its price to $0.044 cents per share.
