The Department of Home Affairs is looking for a partner to replace its 15-year-old travel document reading system that has reached end of life with new hardware, software and services.
In a request for tender (RFT) document uploaded to AusTender, the Department said it was looking for a partner to provide the new system to support manual border clearance processing for international travellers both entering and leaving Australia.
The new solution is to replace its Fraudulent Travel Documentation System for international airport primary line and primary support points processing, which was deployed in 2009.
This included the provision of electronic machine readable travel document [MRTD] readers, ongoing maintenance and constant travel document template and software releases.
“The ABF manages and operates traveller immigration border clearance. Establishing a traveller’s identity is a core component in completing this activity,” the RTF noted.
“Travellers are required to provide a document of identity. Most travellers fulfil this requirement by using a [MRTD]. The traveller’s MRTD is used, by [the] Home Affairs Border Control system, as the trusted source to establish a traveller’s identity.”
Not included in the tender however are passport scanners and related service integration with automated arrivals and departures solutions, graphical user interfaces for the Australian Border Force, the supply and installation of PCs, monitors and keyboards, infrastructure and alterations to physical airport infrastructure.
Interested parties have until 22 October to provide a submission.
