EY Identity (EYI) has acquired J Group Consulting, a Melbourne-based firm specialising in protecting privileged accounts, to expand its identity and privileged access management offerings.

It will also enable it to further scale transformation delivery and managed services in support of the digital identity and cyber security market.

EYI is a part of EY’s cyber security services, specifically focusing on identity and access management. It is a corporate entity and a part of the EY member firms network.

EY Global and Asia Pacific (APAC) cyber security consulting leader Richard Watson said clients continue to increase investment in identity and privileged access management to protect critical IT and operational technology systems.

“The introduction of recent legislation around critical infrastructure in Australia is driving many implementations in the market,” he said.

“The acquisition of J Group Consulting bolsters the strength of the EY cyber security practice with unique skills in a highly competitive market and puts EY identity and privileged access management capabilities at the front of the Oceania market.”

Under the agreement of the acquisition, J Group Consulting’s 20 employees will join EYI and will be based primarily out of Melbourne and Sydney to service clients across Oceania. Additionally, J Group Consulting founder Joel Harris will join the firm as a partner.

Since its launch in 2022, J Group Consulting has focused on attracting and cultivating privileged access management practitioners offering strategy, implementation, optimisation and engineering services across APAC.

Harris said its focus has always been on helping clients in an increasingly complex cyber security landscape.

He started the consulting company two and half years ago after working over nine years as a manager of privileged access management at National Australia Bank.

Harris’ mission at the time was to “help build a secure world for people to thrive”.

“Joining EYI marks an exciting evolution of what we’ve built, enabling us to take the strengths we already have and grow them further within EYI,” he added.
