Insurer Fidelity Life’s information security team has been crowned security team of the year at last night’s 2024 iSANZ awards, highlighting the advances the team delivered over the past year.
The judge’s said the award-winning team of Saurabh Nair, Desmond Goh, Roy De Vasconcelos and Christopher Colby demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in safeguarding customer information and protecting Fidelity Life’s services against evolving digital threats.
Fidelity Life head of information security Dean Navarro, who was also a finalist for cybersecurity leader of the year, played a pivotal role in leading the team.
“This recognition underscores our journey of growth, resilience, and commitment to our people,” said Angela Henderson, chief information and delivery officer at Fidelity.
iSANZ chair Kendra Ross the entrants and finalists represented some of the most talented professionals in the information security landscape.
“These awards not only celebrate success but encourage ongoing innovation and collaboration within our community,” she said. “Together, we’re proud to be tackling today, and tomorrow’s cybersecurity challenges.”
NCSC / CERT NZ won the security project/awareness category for its “Exposed – own your online” campaign to simplify cyber security and encourage Kiwis to take personal responsibility for online safety.
Kordia Group was the named security company of the year for its customer-centric culture, continuous improvement, talent development and community engagement.
Qubit Cyber was crowned the startup/new business of the year for championing digital safetyand transforming cybersecurity from system security to ensuring product safety across sectors like med-tech, IoT, and aviation.
Paul Connolly from Kiwibank won the cyber security leader of the year category after expanding his team from nine to 22, fostering a culture of growth and inclusion and providing mentorship.
Rachel Parangi from Northpower was named up and coming cyber security star for significantly enhancing Northpower’s cybersecurity posture since becoming information security manager in 2023. She established an information security steering group, developed key policies, and initiated a comprehensive risk management framework.
The hall of fame award went to the New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge which transformed since 2014 from a competition for University of Waikato students into a prestigious challenge that attracts over 400 participants nationwide.
