Fibre company Chorus has appointed Drew Davies as its new chief operating officer to fill the role left vacant when Mark Aue was appointed Chorus chief executive in April.
Davies was the CFO of NZX-listed component manufacturer Rakon until July when he resigned with immediate effect.
Rakon, which had been the target of a mysterious takeover bid until June, appointed Mark Dunwoodie as interim CFO on 26 August.
As Chorus COO, Davies will have responsibility for all financial functions along with strategy, brand and marketing, customer experience and customer engagement.
He brings more than 30 years’ global experience in telecommunications, holding executive roles with 2degrees, multinational mobile telecommunications company Trilogy Partners, and senior financial and operational roles with T-Mobile in the United States.
“I am delighted to have Drew joining our team at an exciting time of change for Chorus,” said CEO Mark Aue.
“Drew brings deep telecommunications and business leadership experience. Having worked closely with him at 2degrees I’m confident that his mix of operational, financial and commercial acumen will help accelerate Chorus’ strategy as we strive to become a simpler all-fibre business.”
Chair Mark Cross said Davies’ deep industry experience would enhance Chorus’ understanding of the market landscape and the needs of customers and retail partners.
Davies said he was looking forward to joining Chorus’ leadership team and helping to execute its refreshed strategy.
Aue thanked executive members Katrina Smidt and Darren McLean for taking on the roles of acting CFO and acting chief customer officer respectively.
