1. Telcos and Net Zero Challenges: Telco network operators are “failing badly” in the fight against climate change, a Research and Markets report assets. Among the metrics to note: Renewable energy represents only about 20% of the total energy consumed by telcos in 2023 (which is low) and telco greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2023 were roughly the same as 2019, the report said.

2. Auto Manufacturing – Carbon Monitoring Platform: Hyundai Motor and Kia have developed an Integrated Greenhouse Gas Information System (IGIS), which is “designed to monitor, quantify and manage carbon emissions throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle,” according to Automotive World.

3. AI and Content Copyrights: Anthropic must apply guardrails to prevent its future AI tools from producing infringing copyrighted content, according to a December 30 agreement reached with music publishers suing the company for infringing protected song lyrics, Bloomberg Law reported. 1. CleanTech Funding Slowdown: Funding in the CleanTech sector was “comparatively week” in 2024 compared to the three previous years, Crunchbase reported, and deal counts also were down.

2. M&A – AI Chips and Software: Nvidia has completed the Run:AI acquisition. Nvidia plans to open source Run:AI’s software, which allows customers to improve the efficiency and utilization of GPU systems. Nvidia announced the $700 million acquisition in April 2024. M&A – Renewable Energy Infrastructure: JSW Neo Energy is acquiring a 4,696MW renewable energy platform from O2 Power Pooling, a joint venture between EQT Infrastructure and Temasek, for $1.47 billion. The acquired assets — spanning solar, wind and hybrid energy technologies — are located across seven states in India.

United States – Miami, Florida: The City of Miami, Florida has launched Miami Climate 365, an effort to communicate and collaborate in the battle against climate change, rising sea levels, extreme heat and additional environmental challenges. The year-round effort includes Miami Climate Week, 2025 a series of events scheduled for March 23-29.

2. United States – Electric Grid Lawsuit: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro filed a complaint with a federal energy regulator against PJM Interconnection, arguing that the largest U.S. power grid operator must change its market rules or risk soaring electricity costs, Reuters reported.

3. Taiwan Carbon Emissions: Taiwan is striving to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by roughly 30% by 2030 — upgrading a previous target despite ongoing challenges, Bloomberg reported.
