Here is today’s sustainable IT services and climate tech news, research and analysis — written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.
1. CES 2025 and Sustainability Discussions: Some sessions at CES 2025 (January 7-10, Las Vegas) will cover sustainability, renewable energy and carbon reduction innovations. We suspect at least two least two keynote speakers — Accenture CEO Julie Sweet and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang — may mention energy efficiency and sustainable IT services. Accenture acquired sustainability consultancy IQT in December 2024. And Nvidia is striving to position new Blackwell GPUs as energy efficient chips for running AI applications at scale. Despite those potential anecdotes, we expect reduced chatter about sustainability at CES 2025 compared to previous events. If you think our thesis is wrong let us know.
2. Partnership – Renewable Energy and Data Centers: U.S.-based renewable energy developer UVCell Solar and Southeast Asian data center developer Iozela Data Center plan to co-develop a data center complex and renewable energy hub in Malaysia, Data Center Dynamics reported.
3. Research – Sustainability Software Market Growth Forecast: Annual sales of sustainability software are predicted to reach $19.92 billion by 2031, up from $9.52 billion in 2024, according to Market Research Intellect. That’s a 13.09% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), the research firm said.
1. M&A – Private Equity and Consulting: Permira has acquired Westbridge Advisory, a European energy and sustainability advisory firm that serves institutional real estate clients. Westbridge, founded in 2015, serves more than 600 institutional real estate clients on “all energy and sustainability related matters,” the buyer said. Westbridge’s services span energy procurement advisory, green building certifications, ESG data management and sustainability consulting. The seller was GENUI. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
2. M&A – Analytics: Bloomberg has acquired carbon credit data and analytics technology from Viridios AI. Moreover, several members of the Viridios AI time are joining Bloomberg. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
3. Tesla Electric Vehicle Unit Sales: Tesla’s annual EV unit sales fell 1.1% in 2024 compared to 2023. The drop represents Tesla’s first annual unit sales decline in a dozen years, AP reported. Still, Tesla’s global vehicle sales rose 2.3% in the final quarter of 2024 thanks to 0% financing, free charging and low-priced leases, the AP added. Related: Tesla’s AI strategy.
