Avaya has hired former Zoom head of customer experience sales (AI and data) and go-to-market for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) Phil Zammit to lead its push in Asia Pacific (APAC).
As the company’s first group VP of APAC, Japan, Greater China and India, Zammit will focus on strengthening relationships with customers and partners.
Additionally, Avaya’s regional leaders will now report to him. Before Zammit’s role, the leaders reported into Avaya International in Dubai.
He comes to Avaya after a four-month stint at TELUS International. Prior to this, he was at Zoom from July 2022 to March 2024.
He has also held positions at Cisco, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Telstra, Unify, BT Global Services, Verizon Business, 3D Networks and Macquarie Telecom, among other companies.
“The APAC theatre is a hotbed for innovation, however that is happening at different speeds with varying priorities in each nation – dictated by policy and compliance, consumer habits, and economic needs,” Zammit said.
“Joining Avaya at this stage of its evolution is an opportunity to help our customers and partners tackle their unique strategies head on, at a pace that suits them, with technologies that put the power back in their hands.”
Avaya chief revenue and customer experience officer ML Maco said Zammit brings “deep experience within his theater and a passion for team, customers and partners”.
“His addition to the team will infuse fresh perspectives and innovative approaches into sales and support strategies while enabling our teams to bring their best to our customers, partners, and each other,” she added.
