Dunedin City Council is embarking on a two-stage procurement for an IT managed services partner starting with a registration of interest process.

With its current contract set to expire next year, the council wants to partner with an experienced, capable and effective IT managed services (ITMS) provider long-term, with the contract likely to cover a decade.

“We want a partner that has a proven track record in delivering comprehensive IT managed services, the capability to support all of our ITMS service areas and the financial stability to support a 10-year engagement,” a notice posted this week said.

The council’s seven core ITMS service areas are: managed service desk and professional services, network services, cloud services, hardware procurement and management, software licence asset management, cyber security protection and governance and service governance.

“Commitment to a partnership with DCC and strategic alignment is vital to the success of this contract,” the notice said. “We need a partner that has a strong focus on cost efficiencies through continuous improvement.”

A seamless transition of services was also essential.

“We want a partner that has flexible and innovative thinking in their approach to transition and delivery of services to support a zero-disruption transition,” the council stipulated.

The second stage of the procurement would see shortlisted suppliers invited to a lean-agile procurement workshop in February, 2025.

In 2021, Spark-owned Microsoft partner CCL won the vendor’s Azure migrate award for its role in supporting the council’s modernisation and migrating their systems to Microsoft’s Azure cloud.
