Cyber security software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendor Obsidian Security has reached Australian shores to expand its reach into Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

Co-founded by former Telstra CISO and current chief product officer Glenn Chisholm, Obsidian was started in 2017 and offers application posture, identity and SaaS data governance security products.

The company had a soft launch in November last year, which saw it appoint the Canberra-based Tom Tokic as its first salesperson in the region in the role of account executive for APJ, while Andrew Latham was brought on as APJ senior sales engineer and is situated in Sydney.

Since the soft launch, Tokic’s role has expanded and is now Obsidian’s regional executive for APJ.

The pair bring with them over 20 years of cyber security experience. Prior to Obsidian, their most recent job was at CrowdStrike, where they were responsible for building its LogScale business in APJ.

Over the last 10 months, Tokic and Latham have been investing in the Australian market, launching a partner program with CyberCX, Baidam and The Missing Link as its first partners.

“Australian businesses are often at the forefront of cyber security due to their strong focus on protecting users and data,” said Chisholm. “With more business-critical information migrating to SaaS every day, these applications have become the new frontline for cyber threats.”
