NBN Co is set to increase the speeds of its three fastest residential wholesale plans and release its 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) tier in September next year.

Previously announced in March, the national broadband network (NBN) builder said it will increase the speeds of its NBN Home Fast, Home Superfast and Home Ultrafast wholesale products from 14 September 2025 for connections via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technology.

The upgrade sees its NBN Home Fast plan’s download speed quintupled, going from 100/20 Megabits per second (Mbps) Mbps to 500/50 Mbps.

Additionally, its Home Superfast plan will be tripled, from 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps, and its highest residential tier of Home Ultrafast is set to go from 500-1000/50 Mbps to approximately 1000/100 Mbps.

When it was first announced, the Ultrafast boost was proposed as going up to 750-1000/50 Mbps.

NBN Co also reconfirmed that the speed increases would incur no additional cost, doubling down on the promise it made when it first proposed the upgrades.

After consulting with internet retailers on the speed upgrades, NBN Co also said it wants to offer multi-gigabit wholesale download speeds sooner rather than later, with wholesale download speeds of 2 Gbps scheduled to be release from 14 September 2025 in its “Hyperfast” plan.

“Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the invaluable feedback we received from retailers throughout our very detailed consultation on accelerating our wholesale high-speed products,” said NBN Co chief customer officer Anna Perrin.

“We are listening and we thank retailers for the work they have undertaken to get us to this important announcement today – and the amount of time, effort and investment that will be required from retailers to bring these exciting, new, high-speed services to market.”

The Hyperfast plan will be made available to internet retailers for a wholesale price of $115 per month.

NBN Co also announced a range of accelerated wholesale broadband products for small, medium-sized and enterprise businesses to be released in September next year.

The network builder plans to launch a 2,000/500 Mbps wholesale product with Business Service Pro included, offing a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to investigate and attempt to resolve unplanned network outages or faults within four hours.

Additionally, NBN Co will reduce the effective whole sale price of its 250/100 Mbps plus Essentials package to $61.933, its 500/200 Mbps plus Pro package to $76.50 and its approximately 1,000/400 Mbps product to $91.93.

Business customers that order both the new 2 Gbps product and Business Service Pro will be upgraded to a four-port Network Termination Device (NTD).

Along with the other announcements, NBN Co added that it will provide symmetrical Enterprise Ethernet speed tiers of 500 Mbps and above with its Premium 4 level of service, which is aimed at aligning service offerings between Enterprise Ethernet and Business Fibre Plans over NBN Ethernet.

It is also set to simplify its products by flattening wholesale pricing for these tiers, with the new prices proposed to be:

  • $300 for 500/500 Mbps,
  • $450 for 1,000/1,000 Mbps,
  • $550 for 2,000/2,000 Mbps,
  • $750 for 5,000/5,000 Mbps and
  • $1,000 for 10,000/10,000Mbps.
