Wavelink has expanded its industry employment initiative, SecurePath, from Adelaide to encompass Melbourne to drive more skilled cyber security professionals.
The initiative aims to connect students with cyber security businesses via an event format, with the distributor claiming that it kickstarts careers in the industry – particularly for those that have completed Fortinet NSE4 training as part of their core curriculum.
The first SecurePath event was held in Adelaide last year, which connected over 100 students from the University of South Australia and TAFE SA with Wavelink and its partners.
This year, the event was held again in Adelaide as well as Melbourne, with over 100 students in attendance from educational institutions such as Melbourne Polytechnic, Federation University Australia, Holmesglen Institute and Swinburne University.
In both of this years’ events, students had access to Optimus Systems, Bridged Group, Honeylight Consulting, BluBiz Solutions, Arxis, Wireless Communications, Compnow, Iocane, Vocus, Subnet, Comunet and Duco Limited.
“Wavelink’s partners face challenges in finding skilled cyber security talent consistently, particularly as the demand for security professionals continues to rise,” said Nick Touzeau, Wavelink COO.
“Wavelink created the SecurePath initiative to help partners access fresh talent and bridge this skills gap. This initiative also lets Wavelink contribute to Australia’s cyber security community and job market by supporting the next generation of professionals.”
Wireless Communications CTO Trent White added, that it hired three students from the Adelaide event who had “quickly become valuable members of our team”.
“It’s a great way to turn informal conversations into future job opportunities and we’re excited to build more genuine connections with people who are passionate about cyber security,” he said.
In September, Wavelink added Acredia’s cloud-based platform to its health and aged care solutions portfolio for Australia.
